As this issue of FMCG went to print, our thoughts were with our colleagues and all the people in Christchurch. When the city was struck by a massive earthquake on 22 February, buildings, roads and infrastructure sustained major damage and the loss of power and water around some parts of the city presented incredible challenges.

Find out how these obstacles for suppliers and distribution centres were overcome. Steve Anderson, ceo Foodstuffs South Island, explains in this issue of FMCG how Foodstuffs’ crisis management team responded and how efficiently it communicated updates about its operation in the region.

The earthquake was a timely reminder for all of us to ensure that we have procedures in place to protect our families, staff and vital business data.

Are we prepared? Keep well and stay safe!
