Export market worth $1.2 billion a week Print

Australia is New Zealand's largest export market, and new figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that for food producers the two dominant supermarket chains across the Tasman are worth A$1.2 billion in sales every week.

The figures show that Woolworths and Coles, the largest retail brands in Australia, are emphatically the key customers for New Zealand exporters seeking success in the food business, either in raw produce or manufactured product. The Coles’/Woolworths’ trade grew 4% in value in the first six months of 2012, 330% more than the annual rate of food inflation.
