Heinz decision part of global job cuts

The decision announced Friday by Heinz to move some of its production to Hastings from Australia, with the loss of 300 Australian jobs, is part of a global review of Heinz processes in which 1000 jobs are to be cut.

The decision will see an end to Australian production of canned beetroot, with consequences for beetroot growers in Queensland, which has provided the majority of the crop for processing.

Moa leads the Kiwi charge in sticking it to the Aussies

altMoa Beer has romped home with seven medals at the Australian International Beer Awards, more than any other New Zealand beer brand.

The Marlborough brewery won gold for its Moa Five Hop Ale in the British Style Ale (Packaged) category, as well as two silvers for Moa Original (European style lager) and Moa Five Hop (Wood-aged beer).

It also took out four bronzes for Moa Methode (European style lager), Moa Pale Ale (American-style pale ale), Moa St Joseph’s (Abbey-style, Dubbel & Triple ales) and Moa Imperial Stout (Hybrid beer).

Next electronic retail application increases consumer spend

New research on consumer spending patterns has revealed that the new "electronic wallet" application for mobile phones increased consumer spending significantly. Conducted in the state of Bangalore by Citibank India, the survey reveals an increase of 230% in retail spending by those operating the system.
